Mazdoor Sangh stages protest

Members of South Westeran Railway Mazdoor Sangh staged protest here in front of SWR general manager's officer urging the government to correct the anomalies in the recommendations of Sixth Pay Commission (SPC). They submitted a memorandum to SWR general manager.

In the memorandum, the Sangh has stated that the recommendations of SPC has disappointed the staff of labour category as it announced Rs 6,600 minimum basic.

Such a small salary would not fulfil the needs of healthy life. Of course, higher rank staff were getting 40 per cent hike in their salaries but staff of artisan category will not be getting benefit of it.

The commission has considered three units for each family while calculating the salary, but their demand was considering five units for each family.

According to Supreme Court order, looking after of the parents also duty of person, they also should be counted while considering the expense of any family.

Fixing of rate of increment to 2.5 per cent to basic would be very less. Where as paying 3.5 per cent increment in salary to performing employees could lead to favouritism in the department and create unhealthy atmosphere in the workplace, they said.

Other recommendations opposed by the SWRMS men are: dependency of pay-bands on those of Fifth Pay Commission; not fixing the amount of of GPF; abolishing all the general holidays except three national holidays; keeping middle and lower lever staff in only two bands;

merger of transport allowance in CCA; outsourcing the jobs of Group D employees in Railways and lastly converting the Railways in to a corporation.
