IPS want rights on par with IAS

Indian Police Service (IPS) officers in Maharashtra are unhappy with the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission and want to be paid at par with their counterparts in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).

The IPS Association in Maharashtra held a meeting last week to discuss the recommendations of the commission and expressed anguish over the “raw deal” meted out to them.

The officers said the rank of deputy inspector-general of police should be abolished as there is no corresponding rank in any other central service. Else, the payscale of DIG-rank officers should be brought on par with the next level in the IAS.

The officers said they work hard round-the-clock to maintain internal security, counter terrorist activities and fight Naxalites in remote areas. “Considering the challenges we face, we expect that our grievances should be addressed and we should be treated as equal to our IAS counterparts,” additional director-general of police (railway) KP Raghuvanshi, member of the association, said.

The association requested the central government that the payscales for officers of the rank of DGP be equated with that of special secretaries to the central government. They said there should be complete parity among all-India services. The association decided that a delegation would meet the chief minister and his deputy with their grievances and request to take the matter up with the Centre.
